It's official: The Loon is taking flight!

Montgomery Gisborne, president of the Tamarack Lake Electric Boat Company and inventor of the Loon Solar Boat, announced that they will be opening a production facility for the Loon in Rome, NY. Production is scheduled to begin in spring 2011.

The announcement adds another feather to Tamarack Lake's cap; the Loon recently won an award for the "Best New Electric Vehicle" at the Future of Electric Vehicles Conference in Arizona.

At a recent DEVA meeting, Monte provided the members with a blow-by-blow account of the last two years, trying to secure the funding to get this project underway. After many false starts and dead ends, all the puzzle pieces finally fell into place. Congratulations, Monte and Ray!

New GM plant to assemble Chevy Volt batteries

General Motors' assembly plant for its Chevy Volt battery is set to begin production on Thursday. The company claims it will be "the first lithium ion battery pack manufacturing plant in the U.S. operated by a major automaker." To be more precise, the 160,000 square-foot plant will be run by GM's wholly-owned subsidiary GM Subsystem Manufacturing. And the GM Brownstown Assembly Plant is just that: an assembly plant.
