May, 2008 The Durham Electric Vehicle Association (D.E.V.A.) is pleased to announce that it is presenting the 2009 Neil Gover Award for Outstanding Achievement in Electric Vehicle Technology to Ryan Wylie and Kyle Hubner, Dunbarton High School graduates! We are proud of the Dunbarton team, led by teacher Mr. Cowden! The Neil Gover Award is given to a student or a group of students from a High School, a College or a University, who has/have shown accomplishment in the development of, and the completion of a project related to electric vehicles. Every year a committee from within DEVA evaluates the list of candidates and follows a set of guidelines to determine the individual or the group of fellow students with the best performance. Neil Gover (deceased January 2007) was a very active member of several North American electric vehicle associations. He left us a great example of how to realize a change in our environment by actively researching and then making it happen. Neil helped to write a manual for High Schools on converting vehicles having an internal combustion engine (ICE) to electrical (battery) powered vehicles. He assisted several HS Students to complete projects in which an ICE automobile was converted to electric (battery) power. He was also involved with the development of several conversions of standard ICE vehicles to electric (battery) power. His legacy has been the conversion of his own Chevy S10 vehicle. D.E.V.A. does not own this award. We invite other Canadian Electric Vehicle Associations to join us to create their own local awards or to simply repeat our action using the standards set for the Neil Gover Award in their area. A comprehensive set of guidelines regarding the Neil Gover Award is available. It includes a registration form for potential nominees, the date of evaluation and the date of presentation. It also details the criteria, and a method of evaluation. JP Fernbach President of the Durham Electric Vehicle Association
